Therapeutic Childcare Practitioner

Salary: £22,000 pa (rising to £23,000 after 18 months service) 

Hours: Permanent full time positions.
Bank positions also available (£10.58 p/h plus sleep in payments) 

Location: Littlehampton, West Sussex 

About the role / vacancy 

Amicus is a children’s therapeutic community accredited by The Royal College of Psychiatrists providing therapeutic care and education to vulnerable and traumatised children aged 5 to 16 years old. We provide a highly supervised, supportive and planned environment that integrates therapeutic residential care and education which is underpinned by our psychoanalytic and group relations model and theory base.

We are embarking on exciting times with the expansion and development of our organisation and are looking for creative and dynamic individuals who are interested in commencing or developing their career in childcare, working therapeutically. The role of Therapeutic Childcare Practitioner is to provide care, nurture and support to our vulnerable and traumatised children in our residential homes and to engage in reflective practice. You will be committed to improving the mental and emotional health of children and assist them in beginning to work through and recover from their trauma and difficulties in a safe and warm therapeutic environment. Supporting children to understand the impact of their pasts and corresponding behaviours and feelings and manage healthier relationships and develop their trust and self-esteem. 

This is a very challenging, but uniquely rewarding role, with lots of scope for development & progression. We are therefore looking for flexible, calm, resilient and patient individuals who are wanting to make a real difference to children’s lives. If you have a passion for working with children, helping them to recover, grow and develop and go on to achieve positive outcomes and are interested learning and developing your own practice and skills within a therapeutic setting, then we want to hear from you! Experience and qualifications although valued is not essential and we are able to provide intensive support and training in the role.
